Spanish Colonial Style Carriage Doors With Swing Out Functionality

Malibu, CA - This custom garage conversion was lacking functionality and style because of the old roll-up garage door that was hindering the interior design of this newly converted room. Getting rid of the garage door track inside the newly converted room made a world of a difference making the garage feel like a real room as part of the home's floor plan. 

The exterior of these Spanish Colonial Style Carriage Doors was finished in composite wood materials that are sure to last and withstand the exposure to the elements. Unlike real wood, our eco-friendly composite materials will not crack, split or bow and offer a lifetime of beauty and durability. For this Spanish home in Malibu, CA we opted for an authentic Spanish Colonial style with real rustic iron head clavos and hand forged speakeasy grills that are true to real European Spanish architectural doors found throughout Europe. The stile and rail design was accentuated with a modest routered edge that embellishes the simple Spanish design. As a focal point of the home, the deep blue color that was selected contrasted well with the home's earthy color scheme. For the speakeasy window cutouts we used antique seedy designer glass to complement the rustic old world charm of this Spanish style home with its gorgeous terra cotta roof tiles and Spanish architectural elements. 

Since the inside of the garage had been transformed into a room, the carriage doors had a different design scheme from inside. Simple vertical tongue and groove planks painted in natural white made the carriage doors blend in with the room's interior making it feel like a real room and not just a garage conversion. The speakeasy cutout windows bring in more natural light into the room ever so enhancing the beauty of the newly converted garage area. 

In order to preserve the existing solid wood beam above the garage door opening header we built in an arched header that cleared the opening for our out swing carriage doors. By doing this customization we were able to offer the client functionality, architectural beauty and historical preservation of the home's architectural elements.
